What is Sporting Clays?

Sporting clays is a shooting sport designed to simulate field shooting. Unlike skeet and trap that have clay birds thrown from standardized distances and angles, sporting clays presents a wide variety of targets that have the ability to be thrown at any distance, angle, or speed.
 
Here at Texas Premier, we like to describe sporting clays as “golf, but with a shotgun.” Similar to a golf course, no two sporting clays courses are exactly alike, in fact, we reset our targets fairly frequently which include a variety of different levels of difficulty to give the shooter the ability to really test their shooting skills.
 
Our 2 courses are laid out in natural surroundings and include up to 30 stations with shooters moving from one station to the next to complete the course. Each station presents shooters with a different type of shot. At any station, targets may be thrown as singles, simultaneous pairs, following pairs, or report pairs. To further challenge shooters, target size may vary.

Safety

The first consideration and our FIRST priority in shooting sporting clays is always safety, and these precautions should start as soon as you pick up a shotgun. Any handler of a shotgun should know whether or not the gun is loaded, however, the gun should always be treated as if it is loaded. The shotgun should only be loaded when the shooter is in a safe environment and ready to use the firearm. Be sure to use the proper ammo with the specific gun you are using.

When traveling with the shotgun, be sure to carry it with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction with the breech open or (for over/under and side-by-sides) the barrel broke open.

Proper ear and eye protection is required not only for shooters, but for all spectators as well.
